The Senior Golf League will resume as soon as the Pine Meadows golf course opens. The course has not set a date yet, but it will probably be in mid- to late-March. We expect to begin scheduling foursomes the week the course opens. The first few rounds are just for practice. We will start collecting and recording results for handicap purposes on Monday, April 1. We play on Monday and Thursday mornings beginning around 9am. Tee times will begin earlier as the weather warms up. See the full schedule here or in the attached PDF.

WEBSITE AND EMAILS

As most of you know, we have a league website. To access the website, click on any of the links in blue in this email or go to tsglma.org . The website is the best place to get up-to-date information about the League schedule, tournament results and other news, as well as pictures of fellow golfers in action. It is also the best place to request tee times (tee timesor to get in touch with us for any reason (contact us). Also check out the Search function! For those who don’t want to access the Internet, we will continue to send basic information via emails.

TEE TIMES AND SCORES

As stated above, the preferred method for requesting tee times is to use the website. You can also request tee times by email, but please follow the guidelines which you can find at Tee Times.

Begin reporting scores by email starting April 1. The preferred method is to take a photo of your group’s scorecard on your phone and send it to the league email address while you are still on the course. This ensures timely reporting and is the best way to avoid recording errors.

TOURNAMENTS

We will have our usual monthly tournaments starting with a 4-person team Scramble on Thursday, May 2. There will be three 4-person team events, two 2-person team events, and one Individual event. The league will provide a light luncheon at a couple of the tournaments.

Also remember that there will be an overall TSGL Season Champion. He or she will be the person who accumulates the most total points in the monthly tournaments, based on finishing first, second, or third, including ties. The more tournaments you enter, the more chances you have to pile up points. The Season Champion gets free entry into next year’s tournaments and his or her accomplishment will be immortalized on a plaque in the Pine Meadows clubhouse!

EXCURSIONS

Some of our members go on occasional 18-hole excursions to other golf courses in the area—usually less than an hour’s drive from Lexington. Let us know if you want to be on the list to receive an email whenever an excursion is scheduled. Tee times are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis for each outing.

TSGL VOLUNTEERS

Eric Baatz has long been a mainstay on the Planning Committee. He put in many hours doing scheduling, enhancing and maintaining our handicap system and, perhaps most importantly, developing our website. Eric has moved to western Massachusetts. He will stay on as an Emeritus member and website advisor.  We will miss him and are grateful for all he has done.

Jeff Garland will take over as webmaster for our website.

Rick Atkins has done various volunteer activities for a couple of years.  This year he is joining the Planning Committee.  In addition to other activities, he will assist Jeff with the website.

The league does not run itself. We are always looking for volunteers. More details will follow in a later email.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Our reigning Season Champion is Rick Atkins.   Two members tied for Most Improved Golfer: Ric Magro and Jim Colantropo.

IN MEMORIAM

Pine Meadows and all of us suffered a big loss at the end of December. Dave Martell, a long-time starter at the golf course, passed away. He was infinitely flexible in helping us to fit in tee times and keep things moving. He always had a smile and a cheerful word. He will be greatly missed.

We also recently lost one of our oldest long-time golfers.  Roy Sodano passed away in January.  He was out of the course with us as late as 2022 at the age of 95.   He was an inspiration to us whippersnappers in our 70s.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!  WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON THE COURSE!
